A place to just stop

When was the last time you stopped?

You know…really just stopped; hit the pause button and took a break from the pace and pressure of your everyday life?

We all know we should do it, and we all talk about doing it and daydream about taking that break we need so badly. Often though, it’s the doing part that can be a problem – the demands of everyday life have a way of intruding on our time despite our best intentions. Life is busy, and it’s hard to switch off.

So how do we make the leap?

Perhaps what we really need is a complete change of scenery – to physically get away from the constant demands and pressures and crowded to-do lists of daily living.

Tasmania’s east coast is full of places like that. Places where you can lose track of time without the guilt. Places where the pace of life is slower and saner, where priorities can be reset, where everything around you seems to be designed to nourish your soul and mind. Places that are easy to find and hard to leave.

A not-so-secret secret

This is all a bit of an open secret, really. The east coast of Tasmania makes regular appearances on best-of and must-do lists all over the world, for everything from its status as one of Australia’s best road trips, to its undeniably glorious beaches and award-winning places to stay.

But there is so much more to the east coast than that – and you’re about to find out what.

Meet Michael, Julia, Anja and Damien

Over the next few months, you’re going to meet some people who’ve fallen in love with the east coast, and want you to know why.

Michael, Julia, Anja and Damien are real, ordinary people with an extraordinary relationship with this part of Tasmania. They’re going to share their stories and memories of the east coast with you – how it’s impacted their lives for the better, why they love it and why, out of all the places in the world, this is the one they keep coming back to, again and again.

These are real stories that have never been told before, about a place that is filled with reasons to stop…and stay, explore, look, walk, taste, sample and savour…or simply to stop doing and just be.

The Tasmanian tourism industry acknowledges the Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their enduring custodianship of lutruwita / Tasmania. We honour 40,000 years of uninterrupted care, protection and belonging to these islands, before the invasion and colonisation of European settlement. As a tourism industry that welcomes visitors to these lands, we acknowledge our responsibility to represent to our visitors Tasmania's deep and complex history, fully, respectfully and truthfully. We acknowledge the Aboriginal people who continue to care for this country today. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present. We honour their stories, songs, art, and culture, and their aspirations for the future of their people and these lands. We respectfully ask that tourism be a part of that future.
