Easter @ The Orford Odeon . THE INTERN Comedy (2015) – Rated M
EXPERIENCE NEVER GETS OLD
70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and continually keeps himself busy in his attempt to fill the hole in his life since retirement and the loss of his wife. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes an intern as part of a ‘seniors’ project at an on-line fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway). Slowly, as he learns, adapts and blends into the new world of Facebook and Google, congenial Ben makes himself indispensable in the spacious, open-plan warehouse office – and in the lives of his new colleagues and successful boss.
The on-screen dynamic between Hathaway and De Niro, as the catalyst for change, is delightful and Hathaway lights up the screen in this insightful comedy in which work, purpose, life and love come under the magnifying glass. Hathaway’s character is work-obsessed, yet humanised; her life’s choices scrutinised and vulnerabilities exposed. Nancy Meyers’ wonderful screenplay is filled with observant truths, as the price of success is considered and evaluated. The result is a warm and funny film, with its involving and amiable characters delivering much more than one would expect. Source: Urban Cinefile
